Storage volumes provide a quick snapshot of water availability, but they can be easily misinterpreted.
For this reason, we've developed a new metric to provide a more rounded picture of water availability to our customers.
The Water Availability Metric represents the percentage of water that's currently available from the region’s total volume of water for the year. It considers volumes in storage as well as entitlement and allocation volumes for both surface water and groundwater. The metric also takes into account the water resource vulnerability when determining water availability for each system.
These calculations are aggregated to represent our overall water availability. The Water Availability percentage is updated weekly and fluctuates depending on customer usage, inflows to storages and allocation.
